Robotics

Robotics will be a primary focus of the Columbia County Makerspace. We will seek the best balance of both inventing and creating useful robot systems in our shop environment to learning the skills needed to utilize commercially available robots and robotic arms or devices. Sawyer was one of the first commercially available Co-Bots. Sawyer, and similar robotic arms offer the opportunity to learn how to program and maintain commercial assembly line robots, which is a well paid career. It’s also fun!

Universal Robot has a tremendous selection of Robotic Arms and Accessories. Check out this video

One interesting platform that we have been researching is Pepper, a humanoid robot that inspires learning about application development, Robotic Operating System (ROS), and human – machine interactions.

But Pepper has some pretty agile competition out there, already making waves in the Food and Beverage industry. Check out this cool video on Plato, a service robot, and it’s development:

We want to bring these kinds of Robots and training resources to Columbia County, to teach our next generation of workers the skills needed for real world careers that can support a family. If you or your organization would like to sponsor a robotic arm or a humanoid robot like Pepper, please contact us to discuss ways you can become a major benefactor for the Columbia County Makerspace, Inc..
