A free community repair clinic was held in the drive thru lane next to City Hall, in Lake City from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Yes, you guessed it! You could bring in just about anything, and we had a team of people standing by to repair it free of charge. Repairs were performed between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Reduce waste, Reuse stuff and Recycle was the theme of this event. We hoped to reduce the waste that hits our landfill. We wanted to help people get more use out of their toy or tool, whatever it is. And at the end of it’s lifecycle, we wanted like to help then guide their possessions into being recycled by the appropriate channels. With any luck we were able to save you a few dollars by not having to re-purchase just one thing this year.

Now there were a few restrictions like no major appliances, or motorized vehicles were repaired, but we looked at furniture, lamps, computers, radios, small household appliances or anything else the size of a microwave or smaller that people brought. (If you weren’t sure, we probably wouldn’t look at it if it didn’t fit in the backseat of a passenger car…)

Whether it needed to be lubricated, tightened, soldered, or repaired we did it free of charge. In addition, Tinkerers of all kinds were on hand to glue furniture, fix toys, bikes or whatever else needed to get a tune up.

This was the date of our Inaugural Columbia County Makerspace Repair Clinic.
