Amateur Radio Day 2025
We had a great turnout on our Amateur Radio Day event on March 29th 2025, at the Boy Scout Troop 85 headquarters, on Route 90. The local Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Columbia Amateur Radio Society (CARS) partnered with Columbia County Makerspace to make this event a success.
There were numerous demonstrations, and interactive displays on hand for children and adults to participate in.

It was impressive to see how computers and radios work in tandem. Some of the computer programs displayed graphically how each radio band was performing.
Another favorite feature of the day was having participants build a radio connection to a surveillance camera; the radio connection is call a “Bridge”. The equipment they assembled was all powered by battery, and can be used in a remote location, with solar charging power.
