Community Repair Clinic 11-25-23
by admin
Columbia County is hosting a FREE Community Repair Clinic.
Residents get furniture, electronics & mechanical repairs done at no charge; help reduce landfill waste.
What is Happening: The Columbia County Makerspace is Partnering with the City of Lake City, the Columbia County Economic Development Department and numerous Community Sponsors to provide a Free Repair Clinic on Saturday November 25th, 2023. This event is in a place where you can bring anything to be repaired free of charge. A few restrictions do apply, like no major appliances, motor vehicles, or heavy machinery. The Location is near the parking lot just East of Lake City, City Hall located at 205 N. Marion Avenue, Lake City, Fl. 32055
Here’s how it works: We bring a team of Community Volunteers to the Drive Thru lane located at City Hall, on Saturday Morning at 10:00 a.m. You bring a bicycle, lamp, computer, cellphone, TV, small furniture item, CB or HAM radio, Walkie Talkies, Robot, small kitchen appliance or whatever is broken in your home to be looked at, evaluated and repaired if possible, at no charge. Many of the volunteers on hand will be handy with electrical, and mechanical repairs, and will even bring a few nuts and bolts with them in case you need one. We will work until 2:00 P.M., and serve as many people as we can serve onsite. You take everything home with you when we are done. Your personal involvement would be special, with whatever skills you bring to the table, as we need as many hands as we can gather to do this community spirited event.
What’s Included: A limited lunch snack ( Hot Dogs and Tea) will be served at noon, complements of North Florida Shells.com while supplies last, as well as the opportunity to talk with experts in computers, cellular, machinery, woodworking, HAM radio and so many more fields of specialty. Any Repairs that can be made onsite by our team of volunteers is our gift to you; think of it as an early Christmas present. So please come out, bring the family and visit this Inaugural Columbia County Makerspace Repair Clinic. In addition, the Lake City Growers Market and Craft Fair is also going on all day that Saturday, right next door, so if Hot dogs and getting things repaired aren’t your thing, there will be something for everyone to do that Saturday, including some of the best food vendors in town.
Why we do it: Because every bicycle, lamp, computer, toaster oven or whatever else we can fix that goes back into service stops collecting dust, and more importantly doesn’t end up in the landfill unnecessarily. We want to help reduce waste, reuse what can be safely reused, and then let you know for sure the best way to recycle whatever cannot be repaired. In the process we hope this enhances your life by saving you money, and allowing you to extend the life of your favorite lamp or phone, or chair or whatever. Our Community partners share these values, which is why they are willing to donate their time and resources.
We are actively seeking additional volunteers, corporate sponsors, and Civic club engagement, so if you or someone you know would like to get involved, please contact us at: columbiacountymakerspace@outlook.com or check out https://columbiacountymakerspace.org/community-repair-clinic-2023
